I have but haven't had any success as of yet....coyotes are some of the most challenging hunting in my opinion. (eyes like turkeys, noses and ears like deer, and too smart for their own good).
I usually use a .223 Model 7 bolt. .22 mag would work well though....just do not shoot them in the head....it will not kill them! The bullet will just bounce off, their skulls are VERY hard. My uncle uses .22 with hollow points...If you use this you would need to pepper them...one shot may not do it.
The side of the head in the ear area is ok to shoot if you can get them to stand that long? But a front head shot is not recommended. I have seen this happen with a Groundhog and a Deer. I went to pick of the groundhog after I thought it was dead, I picked it up and there was no hole. All there was was a streak of hair missin between his eyes all the way back of his head...Then it open it eyes about that time and I dropped him like a hot potato.......LOL
Haha! I bet that critter could do some damage too....
kmorgan, I find that predator hunting is easier in groups of 3? Have the caller in the middle with 2 sets of eyes a good distance from him on either side. At least that is how I got the bobcat.
I have a rabbit in distress that moves, but I hate tracking my scent everywhere to set up a decoy. I love hearing how others do things. I would be up for predator hunting anytime I can do it....remember coyotes are legal in the daytime year round.
